Urijah @ Camp Prov [July 9-13, 2012]

I’ve actually been meaning to put this post together for a while now, but kept putting it off for more important things.  You know, like taking care of two crumbsnatchers.  Or better yet, sleeping! 🙂

As many of you know, Urijah has been in speech therapy for 6mos now.  As a matter of fact, his family coordinator is coming over this Friday to check on him and see if he’s reached any of the goals we set when therapy first started.  (PS: I can’t believe it’s already been 6mos… he’s making such wonderful progress!)

Providence Children’s Center holds an annual ‘camp’ available to all patients who receive treatment through the Center.  This could be speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and/or a combination of these and other services provided by the Center.  Camp was five days long, four hours a day… The kids had daily crafts, they went swimming, visited the petting zoo, participated in nature walks/scavenger hunts… All sorts of fun things that he doesn’t get to do on a regular basis.

I made sure that Urijah’s application was in at 8am, the day they started accepted them.  I wanted him to have the opportunity to experience all these fun activities!  The application was turned in late Jan/early Feb and while he may not have any idea what was going on, I was excited enough for the both of us.

So, Monday the 9th rolls around and I’m extremely nervous/anxious all morning because I’m not exactly sure how Urijah is going to do being left with complete strangers.  He always does well with the babysitter, but he knows her face by now and even if he has a fit when I leave, Kim says he always calms down after a few minutes.  Remember to breath, Mom.

We arrive at Forest Park, he’s a little antsy as we stand in line to sign him in, I ‘okay’ the snack of the day, check in with on-duty nurse, and find his buddy.  Each camper was assigned to a HS volunteer AKA ‘their buddy’… This buddy hung out with them all week and kept them on schedule as they moved from one task to another.  Urijah has this cute little blonde named Emma.  As soon as they paired up and she showed him to the balls, where the rest of his group was playing, he was off… He paid absolutely no attention to the fact that I wasn’t around.  Me, on the other hand, I was a complete mess… Crying like it was his first day of kindergarten.  I just couldn’t (and still can’t) believe how big this child is getting!

Every day, Ray would pick him up at 12pm and he’d have a ‘report card’ in his bookpack.  Here’s how his progress went throughout the week.

Monday:
Today…
I made a flag.
I ate fruit loops.
I liked snack time.
My buddy’s name was Emma.
My day was fabulous!

Thursday:

I ate bagel & some fishes.
I liked our nature walk.
My buddy’s name was Emma.
My day was fabulous!

Friday:
Today…
I made a beaded bracelet. (Which is now on the shifter of Mommy’s car!)
I ate some animal crackers.
I liked looking at all the animals at the petting zoo!
My buddy’s name was Emma.
My day was fabulous!
Comments – Urijah is such a great little camper!  It’s been great watching him improve & today, he even went swimming!

That’s right, he wanted nothing to do with the swimming pool until the last day of camp. Emma said it was struggle to get him to go with it, so Ray and I have been discussing ‘Mommy & Me’ swimming classes in order to get him used to the water.

And to complete this blog post, a picture of Urijah & Emma!

Deep Conversation

The wonderful staff over at Rock My Photography is having another photo contest I thought I’d enter.  This time around the theme is ‘Father’s Day’.

This image was taken last July, before I upgraded to my Canon 7D; it was the dark period in my life when I had to resort to a hand-me-down point and shoot!  Ha!

Regardless, its still one of my favorite images of G with his Daddy.  I have no idea what they were talking about… But if I know Ray and had to guess, I’m sure it was football.

G – 15mo

Gideon had his 15mo wellness check this past Friday.  He currently weighs 22lbs15oz (26%) and is 31 1/4in tall (54%).  Doc says she doesn’t have any concerns, but we do need to increase his water intake.  Because of the issue with his kidney, we need to make sure he’s taking in plenty of H20… She says he should be constantly flushing out his system (ie: constantly peeing).

Poor dude got three pricks on his leg(s) – DTaP (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis), MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella), & a Chickenpox vaccine.  The pic below is from our ride home… Needless to say, he was a cranky/tired little G… Just check out those red, droopy eyelids!  I felt so bad for him.  😦

Tired G

He still hasn’t mastered the walking thing, still a little shaky when he tries to stand on his feet.  He’s gotten pretty damn good at cruising and “knee walking” though.  He’s taken a few tiny steps, but if we hold out our hands in an attempt to release his grip on the furniture, he will almost always drops to his knees.  Cheater.

We bought him this musical walking toy for his 1st birthday back in February, but only recently has he learned what its really for.  I was able to capture a few pics this past weekend as he was cruising down the hallway with it.

G's Musical WalkG's Musical WalkHe’s such a happy boy, pretty much all the time… I could probably learn a thing or two from him.

Embrace the Camera – 05.31.12

I normally do these weekly pics via Instagram.  But I’m starting to get the hang of WordPress, so I thought I would shift gears.  This week’s ‘Embrace the Camera’ entry is brought to you by Ray. 🙂  I asked that he take a picture of the Dudes and I during a story before their bedtime routine started.

PS:  Please excuse the quality of this picture.  Hubby was in AUTO mode (eeeek!) and doesn’t have any sense on how to work my DSLR.  😉

PSS: Can you see my new custom watermark?!  (If not, click on the actual picture to check it out.)  BIG thanks to Stacie Jensen and her awesomeness at Rock My Edits for creating such beauty!

Tiny Parts

I recently stumbled upon Rock My Photography, owned by one awesome photographer by the name of Stacie Jensen.  She is currently hosting a no-theme photo contest and I thought I’d give it a whirl.

This is my very first entry into any sort of photo contest.  Eeeek!

Urijah was a little over a month old when I took this picture and its honestly still one of my all-time favorites.  I believe, minus some cropping, this photo is SOOC (straight out of camera).  I’m in love with the sun flare.

Wish me luck! 🙂

Today’s Playgroup

Some of you may know — Urijah has been in speech therapy for almost 6mos.  As part of his therapy, he and I go to a weekly playgroup at the Providence Children’s Center.  Today the weather was nice enough for the kids to enjoy their ‘free play time’ outside.  The few times that we’ve tried to get him to go down the slide in the past have ended up in tantrums and tears.  But he was brave enough to try one today… and he actually liked it!

Getting ready to go down for the first time…

Weeee!!!!!

Not only do I love the smile on his face, but his hair sticking up from static puts a smile on my face!

Then we went inside for circle time and snack.  One of the girls in his class just had a birthday yesterday and her Mom brought cupcakes for everyone.  Urijah only ate the frosting and ended up with a white beard by the time he was done.

All in all… it was a good day for him.  ❤
